Country: Austria (Österreich) State: Steiermark City: Graz Location: Franzensplatz Built 1825-1825 as "Landestheater" by Peter von Nobile, replacing a previous theatre on the same site (built 1776, destroyed by fire in 1823). Opened 4 October 1825. 1887 renamed "Staddtheater". 1200 seats. 1889 renamed "Theater am Franzensplatz" after the new "Stadttheater" had been opened. 1959-1960 partly demolished. Subsequently rebuilt, with the auditorium restored to its original form. Re-opened 14 March 1964 as "Schauspielhaus". Used for dama performances by the resident company. Also used for performances during the "Steirischer Herbst" festival. Current capacity: main auditorium: 564 seats, rehearsal stage: 100 seats. Notable world premieres:
