First theatre building in Amsterdam, built for the "Eerste Nederduytsche Academie", a chamber of rhetorics founded by Samuel Coster. Opened 23 Sep 1617 with Suffridus Sixtinus's "Apollo" and Gijsbert van Hoghendorp's "Vande moordt begaen aen Wilhelm van Orangien". Demolished in favour of the new theatre Schouwburg van Van Campen (opened 1637).
