Country: Romania City: Iasi (Jassy) Built 1894-1896 for the Kingdom of Romania by Ferdinand Fellner & Hermann Helmer, at the site of the old National Theatre (built 1816, destroyed by a fire on 2 Feb 1888). Opened 2 December 1896 with "Muza dela Burdujeni", "Cinel-Cinel", and "Poetul dramatic". Named in honour of the Romanian poet, dramatist, and politician, Vasile Alecsandri (1821-1890). Ca. 1000 seats. |
