Built 1907-1923 as "Nouveau Théâtre" by Louis-Marie Cordonnier, at the site of the previous municipal theatre (built 1784-1787, destroyed by fire in 1903). Opened while uncompleted by the German troups in World War I. Officially opened 1923 with a gala concert. Ca. 2000-2002 interior renovation and rebuilding of the stagehouse by Pierre-Louis Carlier and Patrice Neirinck. Ca. 1000 seats.
