Built 1882 by Louis Sauvageot on the site of a previous theatre buildling (opened 1794, destroyed by a fire on 25 Apr 1876). Opened 30 Sep 1882 with Giacomo Meyerbeer's "Les Huguenots". Severely damaged by a fire on 9 Juned 1940, completely destroyed by bombs on 30 and 31 May 1944. A new "Théâtre des Arts" was later built on another site.
