Built 1743-1746 as "Fort Saint-Pierre" by Antoine Niquet. Later used as a military hospital. 1959 converted into an open-air theatre, after an idea by Jean Vilar. Opened 1960. 1485 seats. Formerly also known as "Théâtre de la Mer Jean-Vilar", named in honour of the French actor and theatre director, Jean Vilar (1912-1971).
