[First theatre on the site built 1911-1912 as "Deutsches Opernhaus". 1924 renamed "Städtische Oper". Destroyed by bombs in 1943. From 1945, the "Städtische Oper" opera ensemble performed in the "Theater des Westens" until the new "Deutsche Oper Berlin" was opened.]

Built 1957-1961 by Fritz Bornemann, using the remains of the previous theatre. Opened 24 Sep 1961 with Mozart's "Don Giovanni". 1885 seats.
