Built 1906-1907 by Ferdinand Fellner & Hermann Helmer in collaboration with Hans Meyer. Opened 23 July 1907 with Kleist's "Der zerbrochene Krug" and Schiller's "Wallensteins Lager". Severely damaged by bombs in 1944. 1945 provisionally restored. 1951 renovation and alterations of auditorium and foyers. 1979-1980 and 1998 renovations of the auditorium and foyers to the original plans. Originally 802 seats (+ 31 standing), today 574 seats. Used for opera and drama performances.
