Built 1885-1886 by Heinrich Hochgürtel on the site of a previous wooden theatre (opened 1825, closed 1881). Opened 2 Oct 1886 with Carl Maria von Weber's opera "Der Freischütz". Destroyed by bombs on 22 June 1943.
