Funded by the city of Modena, the box owners of the old Teatro Comunale (at Via Emilia), and Duke Francesco IV. d'Este. Opened 2 Oct 1841 with Alessandro's Gandini's opera "Adelaide di Borgogna al Castello di Canossa". 1869 new auditorium ceiling. 1935 stage extension, rebuilindg of orchestra pit. 1996-1998 major exterior and interior restaurations, including restauration of the painted curtain. Re-opened 1998. In October 2007 renamed "Teatro comunale Luciano Pavarotti" in honour of the Modena-born tenor, Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007). Used for opera performances and concerts. |
