Country: Italy (Italia) Region: Piemonte City: Torino Location: Piazza Castello / Via Giuseppe Verdi [1st theatre on the site built 1738-1740 Filippo Juvarra and Benedetto Alfieri for King Carlo Emanuele II. Opened 26 Dec 1739 with Francesco Feo's opera "Arsace". 1838, 1905, and 1924 various rebuildings. Capacity: 2500 persons. Destroyed by fire on 8/9 Feb 1936. Remains destroyed by bombs in 1942 and 1943.] Built 1967-1973 by Carlo Mollino. Opened 10 Apr 1973 with Verdi's "I Vespri Siciliani" (in Italian). Used for opera performances. |
