Built 1867 by George Bell for James Baylis. Opened as "Royal Colosseum and Opera House". 1879 auditorium destroyed by a fire. Subsequently rebuilt by C. J. Phipps. 2012-2014 addition of new foyers. Originally ca. 3000 seats, now 1541 seats. Home to Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet.
