Built by W. G. R. Sprague. Opened 16 Nov 1896. Named after the English playwright, William Shakespeare (1564-1616). 1205 seats. 1923 converted into a cinema. Destroyed by bombs in World War II. Remains demolished in 1957 in favour of an office block ("Shakespeare House").
