Opened 1861 as a corn trade hall. Soon used as community venue; during the 20th century used for a variety of purposes, including public meetings, balls, amateur drama performances; also used as a disco and as a roller skating rink.

Major rebuilding in the 1990s, re-opened 1993 as an performing arts centre. Used for dance, film, music, drama, light entertainment, children's events, comedy, and christmas pantomime. 400 seats.
