Built by W. G. R. Sprague. Opened 3 Aug 1903 as "Grand Opera House" with "The Country Girl". 1904 renamed "Hippodrome Theatre". 1931 converted into a full time cinema. From 1937, shortly again used as a live theatre. Later, again used as a cinema. Damaged in April 1942 by bombs. Reopened ca. 1945 as a live theatre. 1957-1960 again used as a cinema. Closed 1960. Demolished 1964 in favour of a multi-storey car park.
