Built 1898 by Wimperis & Arber. Opened 5 Sep 1898 as a music hall. Damaged by fire in 1899, subsequently repaired and re-opened as "New Palace Theatre of Varieties". 1961 converted into a bingo hall, later again used as a live theatre. 1983 re-opened as discotheque "The Academy", later renamed "Dance Academy". Closed 6 May 2006. Originally 1610 seats.
