Built 1857 by W. J. Stent as "Athenaeum", a literary institute. 1879 rebuilding by T. H. Wyatt. Ca. 1912 lecture room converted into a cinema and re-opened as "Picture Palace". Also used for live theatre. Closed in the 1950s. Re-opened 1969 as "Athenaeum Centre", an arts centre showing plays, concerts and films. 1986 renamed "West Wiltshire Arts Centre". Closed 1997. 2000 reopened as "The Athenaeum Centre for the Community".
