Built 1904 by Daniel H. Burnham. Opened 14 Dec 1904 with a concert by the "Theodore Thomas Orchestra", conducted by Theodore Thomas. 1905 installation of a pipe organ by Lyon and Healy. 1946 organ rebuilding by Frank J. Sauter and Sons. 1950 redecoration by Daniel Burham jr. 1966 renovation and technical modernization by Harry Weese & Associates. 1967 installation of an electronic organ. 1981 installation of a pipe organ by M. P. Moeller, Inc. 1995-1997 major renovation by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, incorporating "Orchestra Hall" in the new "Symphony Center" complex (also containing the rehearsal and performance space "Buntrock Hall", a restaurant and administration offices). Acoustical consultant: Kirkegaard & Associates. Organ renovation and extension by Casavant Frères. Re-opened 4 Oct 1997. Home to the "Theodore Thomas Orchestra", 1913 renamed "Chicago Symphony Orchestra". 2530 seats.
