Open-air theatre, built 1928-1930 by the Board of Griffith Park Commissioners, funded by a bequest of Griffith J. Griffith. Opened 25 Sep 1930. Rebuilt in the 1950s for James Doolittle. Since 1975 operated by the James M. Nederlander Companies. 1983 extension (6187 seats). Major renovations 2003-2004. Mainly used for musical performances and concerts. Current capacity: 6162 seats.
