[1st theatre on the site built 1813 as "Real Teatro de São João". Opened 12 Oct 1813. Destroyed by a fire that had started during the ceremony of the proclamation of the first Brazilian constitution in 1824.]

[2nd theatre built 1826 as "Imperial Theatro São Pedro de Alcântara". Opened 22 Jan 1826 with João Francisco Fasci's opera "Tancredo". 1831 renamed "Theatro Constitucional Fluminense". 1839 renamed "Theatro São Pedro de Alcântara". Destroyed by fire on 9 Aug 1851.]

[3rd theatre built 1852 as "Theatro São Pedro de Alcântara". Opened 18 Aug 1852 with "O livro negro". Destroyed by fire on 27 Jan 1856.]

4th theatre built 1856-1857 as "Theatro São Pedro de Alcântara". Opened 3 Jan 1857 with "Affonso Prieto". 1916 rebuildings. On 24 Aug 1923 renamed "Teatro João Caetano". Demolished in 1929 in favour of a new theatre building.

[5thd theatre built 1929 as "Teatro João Caetano". Opened 26 June 1930. 1986 major renovations and alterations.]
