Pleasure pier, built by Eugenius Birch. Opened 21 May 1863 as a promenade pier. 1877 extension and addition of the "Indian Pavilion" at the sea end, used for concerts and shows (damaged by fire in 1921, destroyed by another fire in 1938). 1939 a new theatre was opened at the sea end. 2011 renovations. 2020 renamed "Joe Longthorne Theatre" after the British entertainer Joe Lonthorne (1955-2019).
